Whither Away?

I have to say that today has been probably the most fun so far. We finally got to acting! I admit that establishing a tool set is important, yet nothing is as great as to act. Yes, that is a bit of a hyperbole; however, I'm in the moment. When Ian explained the three keys to acting, it all seemed to make perfect sense. Usually I've dealt with a theatre teacher or director who turns it all into rhetoric or makes it sound so overly complicated. Why, one director, who shall remain nameless, would always say: "acting is reacting." The only problem was that she didn't explain it any further! What she forgot to point out was that to react is also to listen and respond in a way that would be natural. Thank you again, Ian.

The 9 rules of movement on the stage were also quite interesting. Placing everything in a category made what we would usually do in our heads become more tangible, and it will probably make us more effective actors in the future. The family photo game was a blast! My only wish would have been for it to last longer.

After watching yesterday, I was so excited to get down to the blocking. What seemed fun to do from the audience was even more enjoyable to actually do! As a Richard, there is never a dull moment. Even when we don't speak, we are always there with the story. I can't believe the first week is almost over, and I am excited to see what tomorrow holds.
