You're Right On Top Of It

Okay- today was totally awesome. Really, it was. I laughed so hard! I love that game!

I liked working on the monologues, I think that it really helped to make them more powerful. With mine, I knew exactly what I was saying, but I don't think that I had really contextualised why I was saying it- so that was cool.

I also smashed my arm on something earlier, and now have a bump there, I thought one only got bumps on the head, everywhere else just bruises. Apparently not. Though, I have accumulated several bruises from this. None as bad as what it was like post-Miss Saigon. My friends kept asking if I was abused at home. . . I had to put makeup on my legs for the play that I did right after that.

Anyway, I digress. We're getting down to the polishing portion of the session, which I always enjoy. I've been rereading the original version of Richard III, and it's helped to give insight into the Duchess. Some of it was stuff that I'd worked out anyway, some of it would only hinder the way we're doing it, but some of it I found to be quite helpful.

Like, for example, Duchess tells Margaret that she no longer truly sees Richard as her son, which was a moment that I portrayed as happening a bit later (which is what I'll probably play, since with the text we have it makes more sense). One thing that really helped was the full version of the 'Accursed and unquiet wrangling days' speech- it made much more sense as written, I hadn't really understood her leap in topics. Plus, one thing that I absolutely loved was her back-and-forth with Richard towards the end. In our version, it's three lines, but in that, it's enough that she can truly convey her disdain for him, plus have a anecdote about his childhood.

Though, I might just like it because I've always loved the way that Shakespeare wrote those back-and-forth scenes, because it's like a verbal battle of wits, with thrusts and parries and sharp barbs. It's why his scene with Anne and Elizabeth are my two favourite scenes, and it makes me sort of sad that I can't play that as well.

Regardless, I get the time contraints, and I still get to slap him, and participate in the battle scene,so I'm content. I do think I need to stop striking so hard in the battle scene though, I now have a bruise from it on my arm. Is that supposed to happen? Ah well, 'tis a noble battle scar!

So yeah- fun stuff today, yay for Friday, I'm sad we're 2/3s done.

p.s. Anyone seen a red DS? I can't find mine. I'm pretty sure at had it at home last, but I've been wrong before, and it may have tumbled from my bag this morning.

p.s.2. I know I said I'd post for HP, but several people have already, and it would be redundant to do so again. Sorry I didn't post sooner, I didn't get home until 8 anyway.
